No new posts Add yourself to the ALSFITT DataBase and stay in contact.

I now have the names of 1027 ALSFITTs, ex-SEWs or ex-Fabric Workers listed in our Database. If you know of any ex-Fabric Workers from the beginning of the RAAF to this present day who are not on our database please send me their details, this includes all ranks.

Of the 1027 I only have 97 with an email contact address, unfortunately not all are current, if you have ALSFITTs, ex-SEWs or ex-Fabric Worker mates who's email or locations are not up to date, please again let me know.

Of the 97 with email addresses we have 32 on the ALSFITT e-Mailing List. (Thank You to those on the list). I would like to have all 97 plus on it. Maybe one day!

Please register and spread the word for other to register so that we can stay in touch. If you have something to say please post it. It maybe better for you to get in first or someone else may have your say for you. So come on, don't just leave it to someone else.

If there are any of you out there using SKYPE let me know and I will advertise it so you can keep in touch with each other along with family and friends in various parts of the world. It’s just like using your phone. Do yourself a favour and check it out. As I have said before it's FREE. See http://www.skype.com

No new posts 'END OF AN ERA' Caribou

THE OFFICIAL FAREWELL TO THE RAAF DHC4 CARIBOU AFTER FORTY FIVE YEARS SERVICE.

Caribou Colleagues,

Unfortunately, the time has come when we witness the retirement of the de Havilland Canada Caribou from active service with the Royal Australian Air Force.

To mark the occasion, 38 Squadron is hosting a farewell function at RAAF Base Townsville on Saturday 7 November 2009.

The following activities are planned for the day:

• Morning: A combined 35 and 38 Squadron Colours Parade, including the formal laying-up of the 35 Squadron Colours.

• Mid morning to mid afternoon: Squadron Open Day – a chance to touch those controls/engines/props/wheels/fuselages/CGU1B etc for possibly the last time!

• Evening: In true Caribou tradition, a Hangar Bash.

Costs for the function are expected to be minimal (covers finger food/nibbles); liquid refreshments will be pay-as-you-go. Costs will be advised at a later date.

Memorabilia will be available; the Social Club is organising suitable items (so you can add yet another neoprene stubby cooler to your collection) – there will be more information forwarded closer to the event. The Social Club is sourcing a suitable commemorative port.

Transport (service air): I’ve had several requests in regard to the provision of service air for personnel to attend the event. I understand there will be some ALG assets doing a sweep, but recent experience has demonstrated that sudden world events can overtake previous plans and result in assets reallocated at short notice. My personal recommendation is for individuals to organise their own travel as withdrawal of service transport at the last minute would seriously disrupt if not scuttle your attendance at the event.

Transport (within Townsville): Early days yet but we anticipate providing transport to and from major focal accommodation points.

Accommodation on base: Due to base facility restructuring and asbestos issues with the older buildings, there is very little on-base accommodation at RAAF Townsville. We’re making enquiries with Serco, but I’m not confident there will be any significant on-base accommodation available for attendees. There are no competing events (as far as we know) in Townsville at that time and the northern tourist season will be wound down by then, so commercial accommodation should be readily available.

Photography on RAAF Base Townsville: I don’t envisage any restrictions on personal photography within the 38SQN precinct or individual messes, but normal ADF restrictions will apply outside those areas. Further details will be supplied closer to the day.

Enquiries and contact details: feel free to pass these on to others you know in the Caribou community.

• Email: 38SQN.45Yrs@defence.gov.au
• Fax: Event Coordinator (07) 4752 1382

• Mail: Event Coordinator
38 Squadron
RAAF Base Townsville QLD 4810

Further information will be passed on as plans mature. I’ll be seeking definite numbers from early August in order to firm up for infrastructure planning.

No new posts Information about John K. LEPINATH

Does anyone know anything about John K. LEPINATH list in the deceased members area of the site? His daughter is trying to find information regarding the place, reference to his death, place of enlistment, service details or any family details. This is intriguing for her as the only relative she has some info about is JAMES KEITH LEPINATH, the family records to date do not include a JOHN KEITH. If you have any info, please e-mail the webmaster and I will forward it on!

I have been contacted by Jim's old school friend who would like to make contact with him. I also wouldn't mind catching up with Jim as well. It's been a long time since our course.

No new posts Passing of Terry Smith

Terry Smith passed away 25/04/08 buried 29th at Caloundra. (Info from one of our Gunnies "Ian Broom" who played golf with him.)

"I am sorry for the late notice but I have only just found out myself and thought that there are people around the place who would like to know. Terry (TP) Smith ex Safety Equipment Worker Woff has passed away after a short stint in Buderim Private Hospital with Prostate cancer. He passed away on 25Apr08 and had a graveside funeral at Caloundra on 29Apr08, it is unknown if any ex RAAFies went along. He was discharged from the RAAF in 1976. Even though in a differing era to me whilst in the RAAF, I was introduced to Terry at the Caloundra Golf club. I found him to be a smiling, happy soul who liked nothing more than a game of golf with his son (an ex WOFF Radtech) with a cold beer afterwards telling yarns. In my book, a bloody good bloke to be around and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Regards, Ian 'Bass' Broom"

No new posts What's happening with the civil accreditation of the ALSFITT trade?

It has happened, although it has been delayed greatly due to the disbandment of ANTA where all their responsibilities and functions were transferred to the Department of Education Science and Training (DEST).

Our new qualifications are: PUA31706 Certificate III in Public Safety (Aviation Life Support Maintenance).

Anyone with any other info please send it to the ALSFITT WebMaster and I will include it on here for all!
